Spectrum #53: Order these Monopoly squares by price — the solution

The Spectrum puzzle from October 6, 2026: six things on one hidden scale, cheapest to priciest, with every figure and where the checks were best spent.

The puzzle

Order these Monopoly squares by price, cheapest at the top and priciest at the bottom. The board opened in this order:

  1. Reading Railroad
  2. Baltic Avenue
  3. Boardwalk
  4. St. Charles Place
  5. Park Place
  6. Marvin Gardens

Park Place was already in place; Boardwalk opened 3 places from home.

The walkthrough

The ends first. Baltic Avenue is the cheapest of the six at 60 and Boardwalk the priciest at 400. Anchor those and the middle four are what is left to place.

Where the scale splits. The widest gap is between Baltic Avenue (60) and St. Charles Place (140) — 80 apart. Everything above that line belongs on the cheapest side and everything below it on the priciest side, so sorting the six into those two groups is most of the puzzle.

The closest call. Park Place (350) and Boardwalk (400) are only 50 apart — the pair that is a coin flip without the figures, and the place to spend a check: a check locks whatever is already right and leaves only the wrong tiles to swap.

The answer
