Fold #5: where the holes fall — the solution
The four Fold rounds from September 27, 2026, worked through: each sheet unfolded one fold at a time until the holes show, and the backward round folded up until the punches do.
The puzzle
An 8×8 sheet is folded two or three times and punched; the player marks where the holes fall when it opens out. The last round runs backward: the open sheet and its holes are given, and the player punches the folded stack. Rows and columns below are counted from the top left of the open sheet; the dashed square is its outline.
The walkthrough
Round 1: 2 folds, 1 punch
The folds, in order:
- the left 4 columns over to the right.
- the top 4 rows down.
Then a punch at row 8, column 7 (through 4 layers). Undoing the folds last to first, every hole on a layer that was turned over gets a twin mirrored across that crease:
4 holes: row 1 — columns 2 and 7; row 8 — columns 2 and 7.
Round 2: 3 folds, 1 punch
The folds, in order:
- the left 2 columns over to the right.
- the bottom 2 rows up.
- along the diagonal from top right to bottom left, the top-left half down onto the bottom-right.
Then a punch at row 6, column 7 (through 4 layers). Undoing the folds last to first, every hole on a layer that was turned over gets a twin mirrored across that crease:
4 holes: row 2 — columns 2 and 3; row 6 — column 7; row 7 — column 7.
Round 3: 3 folds, 2 punches
The folds, in order:
- the right 2 columns over to the left.
- the bottom 2 rows up.
- the top 2 rows down.
Then a punch at row 6, column 5 (through 4 layers) and row 6, column 3 (through 2 layers). Undoing the folds last to first, every hole on a layer that was turned over gets a twin mirrored across that crease:
6 holes: row 6 — columns 3, 5 and 8; row 7 — columns 3, 5 and 8.
Round 4 — backward: 3 folds, 2 punches
The open sheet is given with 11 holes in it — row 1 — column 1; row 3 — column 2; row 4 — columns 3 and 8; row 5 — columns 5 and 6; row 6 — columns 5 and 6; row 7 — columns 3 and 8; row 8 — column 2 — and the player punches the folded stack to make them. The folds, in order:
- the right 3 columns over to the left.
- the bottom 3 rows up.
- along the diagonal from top right to bottom left, the top-left half down onto the bottom-right.
Folding the sheet up stage by stage, the holes stack onto each other until they sit in 2 places:
Punch at row 4, column 3 (through 6 layers) and row 5, column 5 (through 5 layers).
