Fold #2: where the holes fall — the solution

The four Fold rounds from September 24, 2026, worked through: each sheet unfolded one fold at a time until the holes show, and the backward round folded up until the punches do.

The puzzle

An 8×8 sheet is folded two or three times and punched; the player marks where the holes fall when it opens out. The last round runs backward: the open sheet and its holes are given, and the player punches the folded stack. Rows and columns below are counted from the top left of the open sheet; the dashed square is its outline.

The walkthrough

Round 1: 2 folds, 1 punch

The folds, in order:

1. the right 3 columns over to the left.
2. the top 4 rows down.

Then a punch at row 8, column 2 (through 2 layers). Undoing the folds last to first, every hole on a layer that was turned over gets a twin mirrored across that crease:

2 holes: row 1 — column 2; row 8 — column 2.

Round 2: 3 folds, 1 punch

The folds, in order:

1. the top 3 rows down.
2. the bottom 2 rows up.
3. the left 3 columns over to the right.

Then a punch at row 4, column 4 (through 4 layers). Undoing the folds last to first, every hole on a layer that was turned over gets a twin mirrored across that crease:

4 holes: row 3 — columns 3 and 4; row 4 — columns 3 and 4.

Round 3: 3 folds, 2 punches

The folds, in order:

1. the top 3 rows down.
2. the bottom 2 rows up.
3. the right 2 columns over to the left.

Then a punch at row 6, column 1 (through 3 layers) and row 6, column 5 (through 6 layers). Undoing the folds last to first, every hole on a layer that was turned over gets a twin mirrored across that crease:

9 holes: row 1 — columns 1, 5 and 8; row 6 — columns 1, 5 and 8; row 7 — columns 1, 5 and 8.

Round 4 — backward: 3 folds, 2 punches

The open sheet is given with 6 holes in it — row 1 — column 8; row 4 — column 8; row 5 — column 6; row 6 — column 5; row 8 — columns 1 and 4 — and the player punches the folded stack to make them. The folds, in order:

1. the left 2 columns over to the right.
2. the top 2 rows down.
3. along the diagonal from top left to bottom right, the bottom-left half up onto the top-right.

Folding the sheet up stage by stage, the holes stack onto each other until they sit in 2 places:

Punch at row 4, column 8 (through 4 layers) and row 5, column 6 (through 2 layers).
